Iranian President Orders Talks with Protesters

by Ahmed Hassan - World News Editor

Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani stated on X (formerly⁤ Twitter)⁢ that the ⁣government views protesters as “our ⁢children” and mourns‌ any bloodshed. She ⁢indicated the‌ administration aims to address the concerns⁢ driving demonstrations⁣ while preventing their manipulation by specific political factions.

Mohajerani further announced that the ‌president has ⁣directed all government ministries and agencies to initiate dialog with the public‌ and address citizen demands. This follows recent protests across ‍multiple ⁣Iranian cities, primarily fueled by economic hardship, including a meaningful increase in foreign exchange rates and accelerating inflation.

As of January 20, 2026, the government’s response appears focused on de-escalation through engagement, though the long-term impact on the⁣ protests remains to be seen. Independent verification of the extent⁣ to which ministries are actively‍ implementing the president’s directive is‌ ongoing.
