West Africa & Sahel Milk Local Production Strategy Refinement

West African Dairy Industry Launches regional Strategy for Local​ milk Production

From January 19-21, 2026, stakeholders in the ⁣West African dairy sector convened to define and implement a joint strategy aimed at ⁣boosting regional production of locally sourced milk.

APESS⁣ Initiative to Reduce Milk Loss

A primary goal of​ the⁤ Association for the Promotion​ of livestock Farming in the Sahel and Savanna (APESS), active in each member country, is to collect and preserve milk currently‍ lost annually from extensive livestock farming in ⁢Senegal and throughout West ⁢africa‍ and the Sahel region.

APESS ⁣is developing a strategy ‌to mobilize resources for the industrialization of the dairy sector.This includes establishing a regional multi-stakeholder platform to support the promotion of⁣ local milk in West‌ Africa, bringing together various associations.

The initiative aims to​ address milk loss and foster industrialization within ⁢the dairy sector ‍across the region.
