Spanish Film ‘Sirat‘ receives Two Oscar Nominations
the Spanish film industry will be represented at the 98th Academy Awards. Sirat received two nominations: Best International Feature Film and Best Sound. Despite advancing past the initial voting phase, the film was not ultimately nominated in the categories of casting, music, or cinematography.
With his fourth film, Oliver Laxe follows in the footsteps of Alejandro Amenábar, Pedro Almodóvar, and Juan Antonio Bayona, the only Spanish directors nominated for an Oscar this century. The Movistar Plus+ production is the 22nd Spanish film to compete for the award in the category reserved for non-English language films.
With its nomination for Best Sound – a more technical category lauded for Laxe’s work – sirat becomes the first Spanish film nominated in the Best sound category.
