Bass to Deliver Two State of the City addresses Ahead of 2026 World Cup
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is deviating from tradition by delivering two State of the City addresses in 2026, with the first scheduled for February 2nd. This shift comes as Bass campaigns for a second term in the June 2nd election.
The initial address, to be held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, will focus on preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Los Angeles will host eight matches at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.
According to an official invitation, the February 2nd speech aims to unify the city and celebrate its “people, neighborhoods and cultures.” Bass stated, “It’s a day to really celebrate our city…last year was very, very tough, and now we’re ready to get things together to welcome the world.”
A second State of the City address will follow at a later date, approximately three months after the first. The purpose of the second address is to provide a more detailed assessment of the city’s progress.
