Adidas Faces Supply Chain Disruptions, Expects Lower Profits in 2026
Adidas warned investors today that ongoing supply chain issues and a slowdown in consumer spending will likely result in lower-than-expected profits for 2026. The German sportswear giant cited logistical bottlenecks and increased shipping costs as primary factors impacting its financial outlook.
Supply Chain Challenges Persist
Many factors are contributing to the disruptions, according to a company statement released this morning. These include port congestion, particularly in Asia, and a shortage of shipping containers. A number of key suppliers are also experiencing delays due to COVID-19 related lockdowns and labor shortages.
Consumer Spending Slows
Adidas also noted a recent softening in consumer demand, particularly in North America and europe. Sources say this is due to rising inflation and economic uncertainty. While demand remains strong in some markets, like China, it isn’t enough to offset the declines elsewhere.
Financial Impact
The company now anticipates net profit for 2026 will be approximately 15% lower than previously forecast. Adidas is implementing cost-cutting measures, including reducing marketing spend and streamlining operations, to mitigate the impact.
