Lula and Trump Discuss Bilateral Relations in Phone Call
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump by telephone on Monday, January 26, 2026. The conversation,which lasted approximately 50 minutes,focused on the bilateral relationship between the two countries and the broader global agenda,according to a statement released by the brazilian presidential office.
During the call, both presidents agreed that Lula would visit Washington D.C.following his scheduled trips to India and South Korea in February. A specific date for the visit will be determined soon.
“President Trump stated that the economic growth of the United States and Brazil is positive for the region as a whole,” the statement from Planalto read.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the progress of their relationship in recent months, noting the removal of several tariffs on Brazilian products.
