Everyday life is built on a complex web of secrets, lies, and suppressed emotions. Ibsen portrays characters with extraordinary psychological precision, balancing between moral duty and the need to protect their inner world. The play thus becomes a deep probe into the mechanisms of human memory, guilt, and the ability – or inability – to face reality.
Director Jan Frič brings a distinctly contemporary reading of Ibsen’s text to the Brno production. His directorial concept sensitively works with the tension between reality and dreaming,and opens up basic ethical and existential questions. Do we have the right to reveal the truth at any cost?
