Engineering School Polytech Dijon Announces Open Day
Polytech Dijon, an engineering school affiliated with the University of Burgundy, will host an open day on , according to a notice posted on the Parcoursup platform.
The open day will focus on the departments of Materials, Computer Science, and Electronics. The announcement was made as the school opened a dedicated pathway on Parcoursup for applicants holding a baccalaureate.
Polytech Dijon is part of the Polytech network, which comprises 16 public schools in France that award the state-recognized engineering diploma. The school offers a five-year engineering program, admitting 120 students in 2026.
The school is adapting to changes in the French baccalaureate system. Since the 2019 reform, the traditional tracks of Literary, Science, and Economics and Social Science have been replaced with specialized courses selected by students during their second year of high school. The impact of these specialties on applications through Parcoursup is currently being evaluated, according to a recent article in L’Express.
ESTP, another French higher education institution, highlighted the challenges of integrating new students, noting that approximately 3 million students enter higher education each year. ESTP is focusing on innovation to support student success, as reported by Monde des Grandes Écoles et Universités on .
Grandes écoles, like Polytech Dijon and ESTP, are specialized institutions that operate alongside the French public university system. They are dedicated to teaching, research, and professional training in fields such as engineering, business administration, and public policy. These schools are considered elite academic institutions, similar to the Ivy League in the United States, and admit students through a highly competitive process based on national ranking in written and oral exams called concours.
Students typically prepare for these concours by completing two or three years of dedicated preparatory classes (classes préparatoires). While students can register for the concours, successful candidates almost always have completed this preparatory coursework.
Unlike universities, grandes écoles generally do not award the Licence (bachelor’s degree) or the university master’s degree. Instead, they offer accredited diplomas awarding a grade de master, the Engineer’s Diploma (Diplôme d’Ingénieur) also awarding a grade de master, or a grade de licence.
ESTP is also expanding its global reach to meet the needs of employers in the construction sector, increasing the number of international students and focusing on programs in countries with high demand for construction expertise.
Recent reporting in L’Étudiant on , highlighted the focus on ecological transition within the construction sector, with 750 ESTP engineering students beginning their year with a focus on this urgent issue. Actu Environnement reported on , that adapting the electrical network to renewable energy sources requires balancing production and consumption.
Holders of a first undergraduate degree or a one-year Master’s degree may be eligible to transfer into engineering programs, according to Campus France.
