Alex Honnold’s Taipei 101 Climb Accompanied by Rock Playlist

Shortly after completing a free-solo climb of the Taipei 101 skyscraper, which was documented on Netflix, Alex Honnold revealed the music that accompanied his ascent. The playlist, recently shared by Honnold, featured a mix of progressive metal and other rock genres, including tracks by Tool, Linkin Park, Nothing More, and The Used.

Honnold’s climb was particularly daring, as he scaled the 1,667-foot building without the use of harnesses or safety ropes. He reportedly chose the playlist to help maintain focus during the challenging climb.

According to a newly shared Spotify playlist, Tool was a primary focus for Honnold during the climb, with tracks like “Forty Six & 2,” “Invincible,” “The Grudge,” “Lateralus,” and “Schism” included. However, the playlist also incorporated music from Linkin Park, Nothing More, and The Used.

Beyond those core artists, Honnold also listened to single tracks from Senses Fail, Chevelle, and The Offspring while making his way up the Taipei 101. The full playlist is currently available on Spotify.

The climb itself garnered significant attention after being featured on Netflix, bringing Honnold’s remarkable feat to a wider audience. The choice of music provides a glimpse into the mental preparation and focus required for such a dangerous undertaking.
