Klagenfurt, Austria – The Austrian national women’s ice hockey team secured a 2-0 victory over Switzerland on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the Wörthersee-Trophy in Klagenfurt. Goals from Anna Meixner and Charlotte Wittich propelled Austria to a dominant performance, controlling both puck possession and the flow of play throughout the contest.
The game’s opening goal arrived midway through the second period, with PWHL-legionnaire Anna Meixner finding the back of the net, assisted by Theresa Schafzahl. Head Coach Alexander Bröms noted that the goal, while welcome, was almost overdue given Austria’s sustained offensive pressure. Switzerland attempted to rally in the closing minutes, pulling their goaltender in a bid to equalize, but Charlotte Wittich capitalized on the empty net with just 43 seconds remaining to seal the win.
“We had a lot of puck possession,” Coach Bröms stated after the match. “We could have used it better, should have gotten more pucks to the net and created more traffic in front of the opponent’s goal. But we also know what our homework is for tomorrow’s game against Denmark. We expect a completely different opponent. I expect a much more physical game, where we need to play aggressively in our own zone and transition quickly.”
