Lord of the Rings Concert in Reims Postponed to 2027: Fans Left Uninformed

Lord of the Rings Concert in Reims Postponed to 2027, Leaving Fans Disappointed

A highly anticipated musical performance of “The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit: in concert,” originally scheduled for the Arena de Reims (Marne) on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, has been postponed to Sunday, January 10, 2027. Reports indicate that many attendees were unaware of the change and expressed frustration upon arrival.

The event, which was to showcase music from the films – including selections from “The Rings of Power” – and feature a member of the original cast, as well as video excerpts featuring the late Christopher Lee as Saruman, was billed as a highlight for film music enthusiasts. France 3 Champagne-Ardenne had previously detailed the planned content of the concert.

However, on Tuesday evening, February 3rd, the concert did not take place. A simple notice posted on the arena’s gate announced the postponement to January 10, 2027.

Throughout the hour leading up to the scheduled 8:00 PM start time, attendees arrived, parked and approached the gates, only to discover the event had been moved. One couple, having traveled 80 kilometers, expressed their dismay upon learning the news. “Why is it dark? Did they cancel without warning?” the man reportedly exclaimed. “Next year? We might as well be dead!” The tickets had been a Christmas gift from friends.

Another attendee, a younger woman, arrived to find the arena quiet and dark, a stark contrast to the usual bustling atmosphere. She expressed her disbelief, stating, “Is this a joke,” before stepping away to collect herself.

Reims city officials directed inquiries to GL Events, operating under the brand Reims Events, which manages the arena along with other venues in the city. Reims Events stated that the postponement was a decision made by the production company, which is solely responsible for the event’s organization, communication, and ticketing.

According to a statement from Reims Events, “All points of sale were informed by the production. These ticket vendors are then responsible for directly notifying their customers, with each attendee contacted through the channel used during the original ticket purchase.” The company added that anyone who contacted them via contact@reimsarena.com regarding the event received confirmation of the new date.

Ticketmaster confirmed sending an email regarding the date change on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 11:20 AM. However, reports indicate that as late as that same day, after the stated time of the email, tickets for the February 3rd concert were still available for purchase without any mention of the postponement. The email reportedly offered ticket holders the option to retain their tickets for the 2027 date or request a refund.

The concert’s programmer, Lancelot Productions, explained that the postponement was due to logistical and touring factors that would have prevented the production from delivering an ideal technical setup and overall experience for the audience. They emphasized that this was not a cancellation, but a postponement, and that tickets purchased for the original date remain valid, with refunds also available.

The specific reason for the postponement remains undisclosed. While other dates on the tour reportedly proceeded as planned, the precise details surrounding the decision were not communicated. The programmer, who is not affiliated with composer Howard Shore, stated that attendees were notified through France Billet, the platform used for ticket sales.
