by Ahmed Hassan - World News Editor

The British automotive marque MINI will launch a special edition electric vehicle in , co-designed with renowned British fashion designer Paul Smith. The collaboration, announced on , marks a deepening of a relationship that began in 1998 and aims to blend MINI’s engineering with Smith’s distinctive aesthetic.

This is not a one-off design study, but a full production model available across the MINI Cooper family, including both the all-electric J01 MINI Cooper SE and petrol-powered F66 Cooper variants, according to MINI’s recent preview. While specific trim levels have not been announced, the edition is expected to be exclusive to “S” models, consistent with previous limited-edition releases.

The Paul Smith Edition will feature a unique colour palette. Key colours include ‘Statement Grey’, inspired by the Austin Seven of 1959, and ‘Inspired White’, a modern interpretation of the original Mini’s beige. ‘Midnight Black Metallic’ will also be available. A signature element will be the use of ‘Nottingham Green’ – a nod to Paul Smith’s hometown – on the radiator grille, mirror caps, and roof. The roof will feature Smith’s signature stripe, with an alternative option of a black roof with a combination of matte and glossy black stripes.

The interior will continue the theme of individuality, featuring knitted black surfaces on the dashboard and door panels, ‘Nightshade Blue’ sports seats with signature striped inserts, and coloured stitching on the steering wheel. The central circular screen will display exclusive graphics in personal mode, and subtle details such as a welcome projection and personalized inscriptions will further enhance the collectible nature of the vehicle.

In Italy, the MINI Paul Smith Edition will be offered exclusively with the electric Cooper E and Cooper SE models. The Cooper E will deliver 184 horsepower with a range of up to 300 kilometers, while the Cooper SE will offer 218 horsepower and a range of up to 400 kilometers. Pricing will start at €36,250 for the Cooper E and €40,250 for the Cooper SE – a premium of €6,750 over the standard models.

The collaboration between MINI and Paul Smith dates back to 1998, when Smith reimagined a classic Mini Cooper in his signature colours. In 1999, he introduced the ‘Signature Stripe’ Mini, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the classic Mini. More recently, the partnership continued with the MINI STRIP, a minimalist concept focused on sustainability, and the Mini Recharged, a one-off electric classic. Each project has reflected Smith’s ability to blend creativity and simplicity.

The Paul Smith Edition represents a departure from simply providing transportation, aiming instead to offer a design object. While the price increase is significant, the vehicle is positioned as a justified choice for those seeking emotion, style, and individuality. The edition features 18-inch ‘Night Spoke’ wheels bearing the designer’s signature.

The launch of the Paul Smith Edition comes as MINI expands its electric range with the three-door model, prioritizing not only technology but also emotional appeal. The vehicle’s design highlights a fusion of MINI’s philosophy with Paul Smith’s unique style, marking the first time this approach has been applied to a fully electric three-door MINI.
