YouTube TV Launches New Sports, News & Entertainment Bundles – Pricing & Channels Revealed

YouTube TV is restructuring its subscription offerings, introducing a series of genre-focused bundles designed to attract price-sensitive consumers and address long-standing criticism that its standard package is too expensive. The move, announced , will see the launch of more than ten new plans centered around content like sports, news, and entertainment, all priced below the current $82.99 monthly cost of the full YouTube TV service.

The centerpiece of the rollout is the YouTube TV Sports Plan, priced at $64.99 per month for existing subscribers and a promotional $54.99 per month for new subscribers for their first year. This plan includes major broadcast networks alongside a comprehensive selection of sports channels, including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, FS1, FS2, NBC Regional Sports Networks, and access to ESPN Unlimited, which will be added this fall. The channel lineup also features ACC Network, SEC Network, Big Ten Network, NBA TV, Golf, CBS Sports Network, PickleBall TV, T2, TUDN, TBS, TNT, truTV, and NFL Network.

While comprehensive, the Sports Plan notably excludes MLB Network and Tennis Channel, potentially a drawback for fans of those sports. The inclusion of NBC Sports Network is particularly noteworthy, as NBCUniversal has revived the channel to bridge its linear TV offerings with its streaming platform, Peacock.

The company is also offering a Sports + News plan for $71.99 per month, adding channels like CNBC, Fox News, MS Now, CNN, CSPAN, and other news and business outlets. An Entertainment Plan, geared towards “cinephiles and comedy buffs,” is available for $54.99 per month, featuring FX, Hallmark, Comedy Central, Bravo, Paramount, Food Network, and other entertainment channels. A News + Entertainment + Family Plan, priced at $69.99, adds networks like Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network.

These new plans represent a significant shift for YouTube TV, which has grown to become a leading pay-TV operator with over 10 million subscribers. The company initially revealed plans for these tiered packages , following a series of distribution deals with major media companies. These agreements were sometimes reached after disruptions in service, as seen with Disney and TelevisaUnivision, and after warnings of potential blackouts from Fox Corp. And NBCUniversal.

The introduction of these lower-cost bundles mirrors strategies adopted by competitors like DirecTV and Comcast, which have also launched sports-focused packages in a similar price range over the past year. This suggests a broader industry trend towards offering more customized and affordable options to consumers.

Despite the introduction of these new plans, the standard YouTube TV plan remains available at $82.99 per month, although this price has increased by 28% since due to two separate price hikes. YouTube TV has justified these increases by pointing to the addition of product features like Multiview, unlimited DVR, and a user interface designed for internet-based viewing, as well as financial incentives like discounts on NFL Sunday Ticket.

The underlying dynamic driving this restructuring is the inherent tension between rising programming costs and the desire of pay-TV operators to avoid alienating customers with excessive price increases. YouTube TV’s ability to continue posting steady growth despite price increases demonstrates the value of its added features and the appeal of its platform to consumers. The company has successfully leveraged these factors to mitigate the impact of rising costs and maintain its subscriber base.

New subscribers will have access to varying discounts on all plans, further incentivizing adoption. All plans retain key features of the core YouTube TV service, including unlimited DVR, support for up to six family members, and multiview functionality.

The rollout of these new plans is expected to begin this week and will become available to all users in the U.S. Over the coming weeks. The move signals YouTube TV’s commitment to adapting to the evolving demands of the pay-TV market and providing consumers with greater choice and flexibility in their entertainment options.
