49ers Defensive Lineman Keion White Shot in Ankle After Super Bowl
San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Keion White was shot in the ankle during an event in San Francisco early Monday morning, the team confirmed in a statement. The incident occurred at approximately 4:06 a.m. On the 17th block of Mission Street, according to San Francisco Police.
Police indicated there was an altercation between two groups at the event, but White is not believed to have been involved. He was transported by police to a local hospital and underwent surgery on Monday afternoon. He is expected to recover.
“Keion White was a victim of a shooting and sustained a bullet wound to his ankle this morning in San Francisco,” the 49ers said. “He is currently undergoing surgery at a local hospital. We will provide further updates when appropriate.”
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and no arrests have been made as of Tuesday morning. Authorities are following multiple leads in the case.
The shooting took place hours after Super Bowl LX, where White’s former team, the New England Patriots, were defeated by the Seattle Seahawks at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara – more than 40 miles south of San Francisco. White was in attendance at the Super Bowl and was photographed wearing a Patriots hat.
White was traded to the 49ers from the Patriots in October. He was originally selected by New England with the No. 46 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. In 14 games with the 49ers this season, White recorded 18 total tackles and 1.5 sacks. He has one year remaining on his four-year, $7.7 million contract.
This is not the first time a 49ers player has been the victim of gun violence in recent years. In August 2024, wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery in San Francisco. Pearsall was able to recover and play in 11 games during that season.
The San Francisco Police Department stated that a preliminary investigation revealed a verbal altercation occurred between two groups inside a business before shots were fired by an unknown suspect.
