Savannah Guthrie’s Mother: Person Detained in Kidnapping Case – FBI Releases New Images

Nancy Guthrie Kidnapping: Person Questioned, FBI Releases New Evidence

Authorities have detained a person for questioning in connection with the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC News “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, media outlets reported Tuesday. The development came as the FBI released new images of an individual apparently tampering with security cameras at Guthrie’s home in Tucson, Arizona.

CNN, ABC, and Fox News all reported, citing unnamed law enforcement sources, that the individual is being questioned regarding the abduction of Nancy Guthrie, who is reportedly being held for ransom. However, officials have stated that the person detained has not been charged.

The FBI released six photographs and three videos posted by FBI Director Kash Patel on his X account, depicting an individual in a full-face balaclava apparently tampering with a front-door camera at Nancy Guthrie’s home. The images, described as eerie black-and-white imagery, show the person approaching the door in the dark.

The individual is described as “armed.” However, ABC News reported that there is currently no indication that the person detained is the same individual seen in the released photographs.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen on the night of January 31 or in the early hours of February 1. The FBI stated that the images released Tuesday date to “the morning of her disappearance.”

Patel stated on X, “As of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.”

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated that President Donald Trump and she had just reviewed the newly released imagery during a media briefing.

The FBI has confirmed that the Guthrie family has received ransom letters with payment demands.

Footage released by the FBI shows the individual approaching Guthrie’s front door, head down, wearing long pants, a zip-up jacket, a hat, and gloves, and carrying a backpack. The person’s hands are visible over the camera for several seconds before they appear to look for something on the ground and then push plants against the camera.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos previously stated that the doorbell camera at Nancy Guthrie’s home was disconnected at 1:47 am on February 1. At 2:12 am, “software detects a person on a camera, but there’s no video available,” he said.

Savannah Guthrie released a video appeal on Monday, asking for the public’s help in locating her mother, who suffers from heart problems and requires regular medication.

“As we enter into another week of this nightmare…thank you so much for all of the prayers and the love that we have felt,” Guthrie said in the Instagram video. “Law enforcement is working tirelessly around the clock trying to bring her home, trying to find where she was taken, and we don’t know where. We believe our mom is still out there. We need your help.”

Authorities believe Nancy Guthrie is still alive and have stated that blood discovered on her doorstep belongs to her. The disappearance has drawn significant media attention, with numerous reporters converging on the Arizona suburb where she resides.
