Tragedy in Starnberg: Eight-Year-Old Boy Dies After Being Struck by Truck

Starnberg, Bavaria – An eight-year-old boy died on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, after being struck by a truck in Starnberg, near Munich. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 am local time on Hanfelder Street, as the boy was crossing the road, reportedly on his bicycle.

According to local police, the truck was turning in from Münchner Street when it hit the child. The boy was reportedly run over by both sets of the lorry’s wheels. Emergency services arrived at the scene and attempted to resuscitate the child before transporting him to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the truck, a 56-year-old man, is now under investigation on suspicion of negligent homicide. A probe has been launched by the local prosecutor’s office to determine the full circumstances surrounding the collision.

The accident has cast a pall over the town of Starnberg, which had been preparing for Carnival celebrations scheduled to take place on Tuesday. Following the tragedy, local authorities cancelled the festivities.

Details regarding the boy’s identity have not been released. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are appealing for any witnesses to come forward with information.

This incident follows a similar tragedy reported in Ottawa, Canada, where a five-year-old boy, Jaxson Mansfield-O’Brey, was fatally struck by a dump truck on October 16, 2025. Mansfield-O’Brey was reportedly on his way to a local park when the accident occurred.

The Starnberg accident is the latest in a series of traffic incidents involving vulnerable road users. Authorities are urging drivers to exercise extreme caution, particularly in areas frequented by children and pedestrians.
