Kansas City Nightclub Faces Potential License Suspension Following Deadly Shooting
Kansas City, Missouri, officials are investigating Status Nightclub and neighboring Blvd Nights following a shooting early Sunday morning that left two women dead and two others injured. The city’s Multidisciplinary Task Force and Regulated Industries Division are actively reviewing the operations of both establishments, with the possibility of suspending or revoking their business licenses if violations of city ordinances are found.
The investigation was announced on Tuesday, according to a city press release. The release stated that business owners will have the opportunity to participate in an appeals process should the city determine violations have occurred. “Kansas City remains committed to protecting public safety, holding businesses accountable to established regulations, and ensuring that nightlife venues operate in a manner that prioritizes the well-being of residents and visitors alike,” the release read.
The shooting occurred just after 2 a.m. On Sunday, leaving four people with gunshot wounds. Two women succumbed to their injuries, a third woman was injured, and a man remains in critical condition as of this reporting. Police records indicate that the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) has responded to 18 calls at the address of Status Nightclub since 2023.
Councilman Crispin Rea, representing Kansas City’s 4th District-at-Large, requested the city’s disciplinary task force investigate the incident and speak with the business owner to understand the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Speaking on Tuesday, Rea expressed relief that an investigation had been launched. “I think there will be a lot of questions that staff have,” he said. “They’ll have to do their due diligence, and it will take some time. I am relieved on our end we’re going to take a serious look at this.”
The city’s Multidisciplinary Public Safety Task Force is comprised of staff from multiple city departments and is designed to investigate and address issues at businesses or properties that negatively impact quality of life and safety throughout the city.
David Botello, a resident who lives near Status Nightclub, voiced his concern and belief that the city should take action. “I think the city needs to take some action here,” Botello said.
On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, a Kansas City man was charged in connection with the shooting at Status Nightclub, according to reports. The investigation remains ongoing.
