Nebraska Gymnastics Team Heads to Maryland for Big Ten Matchup

The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team (4-4, 2-3 Big Ten) will travel to College Park, Maryland, on Friday, February 20, to face No. 25 Maryland (6-3, 2-3 Big Ten). The competition is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. (CT) at the XFINITY Center and will be available for streaming on B1G+.

This contest marks the 26th meeting between the two programs. Last season, Nebraska secured a victory over Maryland, posting a score of 196.325 to the Terrapins’ 195.950 in Lincoln.

Huskers Ride Momentum from Senior Night Win

Nebraska enters the competition following a successful Senior Night performance on Sunday, February 15, defeating Illinois with a score of 195.750 to Illinois’ 193.950. The meet was a celebration of the contributions of seven graduating gymnasts.

Whitney Jencks and Lauren Homecillo shared the floor exercise title, both achieving a score of 9.875. Jencks also finished second in the all-around competition with a total score of 39.300, while Isabel Sikon secured third place with a score of 38.225.

Scouting the Terrapins

Maryland currently holds a ranking of No. 25 in the Road to Nationals standings. The Terrapins have achieved a season-high team score of 196.675 and an NQS (National Qualifying Score) of 195.944. They have secured conference wins against both Illinois and Washington, but have faced defeats against No. 11 Michigan State and No. 19 Penn State.

Madeline Komoroski led Maryland in their most recent meet against Michigan State and Central Michigan, earning a 9.800 on uneven bars and a 9.875 on balance beam. She also posted a score of 9.900 on floor exercise.
