Jennifer Garner Orchestrated ‘The Last Thing He Told Me’ Season 2 Reunion with Judy Greer

– The second season of Apple TV+’s mystery thriller, ‘The Last Thing He Told Me,’ arriving , features a long-awaited on-screen reunion between Jennifer Garner and Judy Greer, a collaboration directly initiated by Garner.

According to reports, Garner, who stars as Hannah Hall and also serves as an executive producer on the series, actively campaigned for Greer to join the cast as Quinn Favreau. Garner reportedly approached co-creators Lauren Neustadter and Josh Singer with the suggestion.

“Jen sort of put her hat on and came to Lauren and me and said, ‘Would you consider Judy Greer?’” Singer revealed. Initially, Singer was more familiar with Greer’s comedic work, but Garner confidently asserted Greer’s dramatic capabilities. “I know she can do this, I know she’ll do something really interesting,” Garner reportedly said, ultimately convincing the team to give Greer a chance. Singer described Greer’s role as “the birth of a super villain.”

For Greer, the opportunity to work alongside her longtime friend was a significant draw. She confirmed she “loved the show and loved the book,” but working with Garner was a key factor in her decision to accept the role.

The reunion marks a return for the pair, who previously starred together in the 2004 film ‘13 Going on 30.’ Garner expressed her excitement about the prospect of a dramatic face-off with Greer, noting a “toothsome role” had been written for a woman and she knew she would get to go “head-to-head” with Greer at the end of the season. Garner praised Greer’s talent, citing her performances in ‘The Dead of Winter’ and ‘The Long Walk’ as evidence of her dedication and skill. “She shows up, and I really wanted to give her something to work opposite,” Garner said.

The return of ‘The Last Thing He Told Me’ for a second season is somewhat unexpected, as the first season adapted the entirety of Laura Dave’s novel of the same name. However, author Dave apparently “didn’t realize she had written one of the greatest cliffhangers of all time,” according to Garner. Producer Lauren Neustadter began exploring the possibility of a continuation, and strong audience demand ultimately led to the show’s renewal.

Garner and Greer explained that the enthusiastic response from both readers of the book and viewers of the show fueled the decision to continue the story. The series, which premiered on Apple TV+ in , follows Hannah Hall as she navigates an unexpected relationship with her stepdaughter while searching for her missing husband. Season 2 will begin premiering new episodes on Fridays, starting .

‘The Last Thing He Told Me’ is executive produced by Reese Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine, alongside Garner, Neustadter, Singer, and Dave. The series is produced by Parnes Bakery Inc. And 20th Television.
