TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Alabama Crimson Tide softball team delivered a dominant performance Friday at the Dugout Club Classic, sweeping both games of their doubleheader with a historic pitching performance and potent offensive displays. Freshman Kaitlyn Pallozzi threw the 10th perfect game in program history in a 7-0 victory over Elon, while the team followed it up with an 8-0 shutout of No. 6 Florida State.
The day began with a milestone achievement for Pallozzi, who became the first freshman in Alabama softball history to accomplish a perfect game. The right-hander struck out six batters in 7.0 innings, needing just 86 pitches to retire every Elon hitter she faced. This marked the program’s first perfect game since Montana Fouts’ gem at Ole Miss on May 5, 2023.
Alabama’s offense provided ample support in the opener, with freshman outfielder Ana Roman leading the way. Roman went 3-for-5 across both games, launching two home runs and driving in a combined seven runs, giving her the team lead with five home runs on the season. Brooke Wells also had a strong day at the plate, recording four hits, including a double and a home run against Florida State.
The second game of the day presented a tougher challenge against the sixth-ranked Seminoles. After three scoreless innings, Alabama erupted for four runs in the fourth, fueled by a trio of home runs. They then extended their lead with a four-run seventh inning, securing the 8-0 shutout victory.
Freshman pitcher Vic Moten mirrored Pallozzi’s success in the circle, earning the complete-game win against Florida State. Moten held the Seminoles to just three hits over 7.0 innings, striking out seven batters. Together, Pallozzi and Moten demonstrated the promising future of Alabama’s pitching staff.
Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy praised the performance of his young pitchers, stating, “What a great day for the Tide. A perfect game by a freshman in game one and a complete game shutout by a freshman in game two. I’m not sure I’ve seen two better pitched games by freshmen in my career at Alabama.”
Beyond the pitching and hitting, Alabama showcased its overall dominance. Seven of the team’s 11 wins this season have been shutouts, including the last four consecutive games. The Crimson Tide has scored seven or more runs in all but one game this season, demonstrating a consistent ability to produce offensively.
Several other players contributed to Alabama’s success on Friday. Marlie Giles and Jena Young have both reached base safely in 10 straight games, providing consistent offensive production. Kristen White added a pair of hits in the win over Elon, while Alexis Pupillo contributed a key single in the seventh inning against Florida State.
