Rhede, Germany – The TV Rhede tennis department recently concluded its eighth annual hobby league, drawing a strong response from its members. A total of 85 players participated across women’s and men’s singles, as well as mixed doubles, culminating in an awards ceremony held during the club’s annual general meeting.
The league featured 20 women, 20 men, and ten mixed pairs, competing in six groups. The competition proved lively, with players vying for top spots in each division. Marina Teklote emerged victorious in the women’s group, securing her win with 6 match points and a total of 74 games won, narrowly defeating Carolin Eiting who finished with 5 match points and 65 games.
In the men’s competition, Stefan Belting claimed the top spot in Group 1, finishing with 5 match points and 61 games won, edging out Felix Kortstegge (4 match points, 56 games). Group 2 saw Michael Klinger and Herbert Böing-Messing prevail, while Christian Thüner and Guido Gantefort secured the win in Group 3.
The mixed doubles competition also saw spirited play. Julia Kortstegge and Helmut Werner took the title in Group 1, finishing with 4 match points and 50 games won, ahead of the husband-and-wife duo of Christina and Stefan Belting (3 match points, 40 games). In Group 2, Annette Harborg and Paul Passerschröer emerged victorious, closely followed by Anke and Frank Passerschröer.
Erhan Onay, the league organizer for the second consecutive year, emphasized the positive impact the hobby league has had on the club’s atmosphere. The hobby league really revitalized club life. A lot of games took place in addition to training,
Onay stated. He highlighted the increased engagement and activity within the club, attributing it to the league’s success.
The TV Rhede tennis department is preparing for a significant year, coinciding with the club’s centennial celebration. According to reports, a special season is planned, including a Sports Day event on at the Besagroup-Sportpark, expecting participation from 1200 students and adults. A large celebration with various attractions is scheduled for at the club grounds, Am Sportzentrum.
The department’s competitive highlights will include the Herren 70 (Men’s 70) doubles competition, where the team has already achieved promotion to the first Verbandsliga. The recent annual general meeting also confirmed the existing board members, including Heinz-Dieter Corsten as first chairman, André Benning as first Sportwart (Sports Officer), and Jens Schröer as first Kassenwart (Treasurer). Christina Belting and Margot Schedding were also re-elected as second Jugendwartin (Youth Officer) and second Beisitzerin (Committee Member), respectively.
The board also includes Stefan Höbing (second chairman), Bernd Bucks (first Beisitzer), Sonja Benning (first Jugendwartin), Max Möllmann (second Sportwart), Ilka Bischop (Turnierwartin – Tournament Officer), and Jennifer Middelkamp (Pressewartin – Press Officer). The club boasts 270 members and maintains a healthy financial standing, according to Treasurer Jens Schröer.
Looking ahead, the TV Rhede tennis department plans to host numerous adult and youth tournaments. The 2025 Hobbyliga is already in its eighth round, with the sixth and seventh matchdays scheduled to run from to the end of the summer season.
