Nebraska Women’s Golf Secures Fourth-Place Finish, Sets New School Record
PEORIA, Ariz. – The Nebraska women’s golf team concluded a successful showing at the Westbrook Spring Invitational on Monday, finishing fourth in a competitive 15-team field. The Huskers carded a season-best three-round team score of 838 (-26), a new school record, finishing just one stroke behind third-place Kansas State, ranked No. 26 nationally.
The impressive performance was fueled by outstanding individual showings from freshmen Kaleigh Babineaux and Ailis Tribolet, who both tied for sixth place with a three-round total of 207 (-9). Their performances marked significant milestones in their collegiate careers and were key to the team’s success against a field that included four top-40 teams.
Tribolet, a true freshman from Chandler, Arizona, delivered a career-best score of 207, highlighted by an opening-round 67 (-5) that included an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole. She followed with rounds of 71 (-1) and 69 (-3) to secure her sixth-place finish. This result represented a 10-stroke improvement from her previous best of 217 at the UCF Challenge in January. It also marked her third consecutive top-25 finish and her second-straight top-10 effort of the spring season.
Babineaux, hailing from Austin, Texas, mirrored Tribolet’s success, also finishing with a total of 207. Her final round included an eagle on the par-5 14th hole, adding to her consistent play throughout the tournament. This performance marked her first top-10 finish and fifth consecutive top-25 finish of the season. She opened the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 70 (-2) on Sunday.
Junior Hannah Kono further bolstered the team’s performance, tying for 16th place with a score of 210 (-6). Kono, from Enkoping, Sweden, closed the tournament with a final-round 68 (-4) after posting rounds of 71 (-1) on Sunday. Her 210 tournament total was a career best, improving upon her previous best of 213.
Redshirt junior Lauren Thiele also achieved a personal best, carding a three-round total of even-par 216, including a career-best 68 (-4) in the final round. Redshirt junior Symran Shah rounded out the Husker lineup with a career-best 220 (+4).
The Huskers’ fourth-place finish saw them defeat No. 37 Kansas by two strokes, as well as Georgia and UNLV. Nebraska was the top-performing Big Ten team in the tournament, outpacing Rutgers and Minnesota. In total, Nebraska defeated eight teams that entered the tournament ranked higher than them nationally.
No. 35 Missouri won the team title with a score of 827 (-37), while No. 23 Arizona claimed runner-up honors at 829 (-35). Kansas State finished third at 837 (-27).
The Nebraska women’s golf team will continue their spring season at the SoCal Spring Invitational in Camarillo, California, from March 8-10, hoping to build on the momentum of back-to-back top-five team finishes.
