Toronto Jewish Matchmaking | Alternative to Dating Apps & Matchmakers

Toronto Jewish Matchmaking | Alternative to Dating Apps & Matchmakers

February 26, 2026 Ahmed Hassan - World News Editor World

Toronto’s Jewish community is seeing a resurgence in personalized matchmaking services, offering an alternative to the increasingly ubiquitous world of online dating. While platforms like JDate and Tinder remain popular, a growing number of singles are turning to matchmakers who promise a more curated and personal approach to finding a life partner.

A new event, February 19, organized by Toronto Jewish Alternative Matchmaker, aims to connect singles aged 24 to 45 through in-person events facilitated by one-on-one consultations. This service distinguishes itself from traditional matchmaking, which can often involve substantial fees, according to promotional materials.

The appeal of these services lies in a perceived lack of success with digital dating. Many individuals express frustration with the superficiality and time-consuming nature of swiping through profiles. Rochelle Saul, founder of Made for Jew TO, a similar matchmaking service, understands this frustration intimately. According to Saul, she herself spent years navigating the online dating landscape, going on “three to four dates a week” through apps, singles trips and setups before finding her own partner at age 38. “It was worth the wait!!” she stated.

Saul’s experience led her to establish Made for Jew TO in 2016, initially running Jewish singles events part-time while working in digital marketing. The demand for these events quickly grew, leading her to expand her services to include matchmaking, dating consultation, wardrobe consultation, speed dating, and singles trips. “I offer a wide range of services focusing on helping my clients filter through all the many time-consuming options out there hoping to make an everlasting match,” Saul explained.

The revival of matchmaking isn’t limited to Toronto. A recent report in the Sun Sentinel highlighted a similar trend in South Florida, where dating professionals are “reviving the art of love connections.” This broader trend suggests a growing dissatisfaction with the algorithmic approaches of online dating and a renewed appreciation for the human element in finding a compatible partner.

JToronto, another matchmaking website catering to Jewish singles in the Toronto area, utilizes “JMatchmaking technology” to connect individuals. The service emphasizes a streamlined process designed to make finding a match “as simple, quick and enjoyable as possible,” having already facilitated connections for “thousands of Jewish singles from different ages, backgrounds & locations.”

The shift towards more personalized services reflects a broader cultural moment. After years of embracing the efficiency and convenience of online dating, some singles are now prioritizing quality over quantity, seeking deeper connections and a more tailored experience. The high cost of traditional matchmaking, however, remains a barrier for many. Services like Toronto Jewish Alternative Matchmaker aim to address this by offering a more accessible alternative.

The success of these services hinges on their ability to understand the specific needs and values of the Jewish community. Cultural and religious compatibility are often key considerations for individuals seeking long-term relationships. Matchmakers specializing in this demographic can leverage their understanding of these nuances to create more meaningful connections.

While the long-term impact of this trend remains to be seen, the growing popularity of personalized matchmaking services suggests a potential recalibration in the dating landscape. As individuals become increasingly disillusioned with the limitations of online platforms, the human touch of a skilled matchmaker may prove to be a valuable asset in the search for love. The Toronto Jewish Alternative Matchmaker event, and similar initiatives, represent a response to this evolving demand, offering a more focused and personal approach to finding a lasting relationship.

The founder of Made for Jew TO, Rochelle Saul, noted a common regret among her clients: “The only thing our clients regret is not hiring us sooner.” This sentiment underscores the perceived value of professional matchmaking in navigating the complexities of modern dating and finding a compatible partner within the Jewish community.
