Jakarta Drivers Apologize After Viral Zigzagging on Toll Road

The drivers responsible for a dangerous display of zigzag driving on the Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu (Becakayu) Toll Road have issued an apology following widespread circulation of video footage on social media.

According to AKBP Reiki Indra Brata Manggala, Head of Patrol and Road Traffic (PJR) of the Metro Jaya Police, authorities have identified six drivers involved in the incident. He stated that officers met with the drivers and issued verbal reprimands for their reckless actions.

“We issued verbal warnings to the drivers who performed the zigzag maneuvers on the Becakayu Toll Road in East Jakarta,” AKBP Manggala told reporters on Saturday, March 7, 2026.

The six drivers, identified by their initials as N, I, H, K, H, and A, reportedly expressed remorse for their dangerous driving. Authorities determined that the drivers are, on average, 25 years old and possess valid driver’s licenses.

The drivers admitted to intentionally performing the maneuvers to create content for social media, specifically to support the sale of used cars. “Their motive was to create content and simultaneously promote their used car business, as some of them work in used car sales,” explained AKBP Manggala.

Despite the dangerous nature of the driving, police opted not to issue fines or citations. “We prioritized preventative measures and provided educational guidance,” Manggala said.

The incident came to light after a video of several cars performing the zigzag maneuvers on the Becakayu Toll Road went viral on social media. The video, originally uploaded by the Instagram account @dashcamindonesia, showed five cars weaving back and forth across lanes on the relatively empty toll road.

The Instagram post accompanying the video described the incident as a “dangerous action on the highway” and noted the vehicles were “zigzagging” on the Kalimalang section of the toll road.
