By Medhat Shalaby
In a recent interview, Hossam El-Badry, former coach of the Egyptian national team, shared his thoughts on the potential signing of Nantes player Mustafa Mohamed by Al-Ahly and other significant player movements in the football world.
Shalaby: Hossam, you’ve spoken out in favor of Mustafa Mohamed joining Al-Ahly. Can you elaborate on why you believe this move would be beneficial for the team?
El-Badry: Absolutely. Al-Ahly’s contract with Mustafa Mohamed will be a great addition to the team. His skill set and attacking prowess will complement our existing players, particularly Wissam Abou Ali. Together, they could significantly enhance our offensive capabilities, especially since Al-Ahly competes in various tournaments throughout the season. I believe coach Marcel Kohler sees the value in keeping Abou Ali this year, which makes the synergy between these two players even more exciting.
Shalaby: Turning to Omar Marmoush, there’s talk about him moving either to Liverpool or Barcelona. What are your thoughts on this?
El-Badry: I think Omar Marmoush would be better suited for Liverpool. The pressure at Barcelona can be quite overwhelming, especially for a young player. If Marmoush goes to Liverpool, he would have the chance to develop alongside Mohamed Salah, which could significantly boost his growth and success. Salah’s experience and style of play could really benefit him.
Shalaby: With the Egyptian national team preparations underway, who do you think should start in the upcoming match?
El-Badry: I recommend starting Mustafa Schubert as the goalkeeper to replace Mohamed El-Shenawe. Schubert has shown great potential and deserves the opportunity to shine on such a significant stage.
Shalaby: You mentioned challenges with the Football Association. Could you expand on that?
El-Badry: Stability has been a significant issue for the Football Association. To restore confidence in the sport and improve the league schedule, I believe we need a new council. Additionally, I think it’s important to establish a technical committee that can assist the Football Association in selecting coaches and staff for the teams, ensuring a more strategic and effective approach. I would certainly be willing to contribute to such a committee if asked.
Shalaby: Thank you, Hossam, for sharing your insights today.
El-Badry: Thank you, Medhat. It’s always a pleasure to discuss our footballing future.
