Federal Rule Strengthens Reproductive Healthcare Data Protection

A new rule, “Protecting Care Access,” has been released as part of Health Data, Technology, and
interoperability (HTI2). This measure aims to bolster reproductive healthcare data privacy by updating
information blocking policies.
The rule, which amends section 171, includes a definition for “Reproductive Healthcare.” It updates
information blocking guidelines, permitting the prevention of information sharing when individuals “seeking,
obtaining, providing, or facilitating reproductive health care are at risk of being perhaps exposed to
legal action.” This update to information
blocking is intended to safeguard access to reproductive care.
The Protecting Care Access component of #HTI2 contains only two pages of regulatory text.

Stakeholders are advised to review the updated regulations and understand the revised guidelines on
information blocking related to reproductive healthcare. the rule is now in effect.
