A Complete History of Marvel’s Iconic Daredevil Costume Designs
Marvel Comics has officially unveiled a brand-new costume for Jennifer Walters, stepping away from standard superhero attire to place the character in an obscure piece of Black Widow history for a high-fashion crossover event, according to recent reporting from Screen Rant.
Jennifer Walters attends the Hellfire Gala wearing Natasha Romanoff’s first-ever superhero costume, an outfit that includes a black-and-blue fishnet dress and a domino mask, as featured on the Infernal Hulk #9
Hellfire costume swap variant cover illustrated by Simone Di Meo, according to Screen Rant. The publication notes that while Natasha Romanoff dropped the impractical fishnet look early in her comic book career before John Romita Sr. introduced the iconic black catsuit, the retro garment suits the high-fashion setting of the Hellfire Gala and highlights She-Hulk’s physique.
A History of Dramatic Visual Redesigns

Unlike standard heroes who swap outfits periodically, the Hulk family’s visual evolution has historically been driven by penciler styles rather than wardrobe changes, according to Screen Rant. Jack Kirby originally rendered the Hulk with a heavy, Frankenstein-esque build, while Sal Buscema introduced sleek muscles for dynamic action. Jennifer Walters has experienced a similar blend of physical shifts and costume updates since her 1980s debut as an emerald powerhouse under John Buscema’s pen. John Byrne later gave her a sleek athletic build with wild hair, followed by a thin model-like appearance in the 2000s and the Savage
era in the 2010s.
She-Hulk is not the only Marvel character stepping out in unusual attire for the event. Screen Rant reports that Moon Knight wears Black Knight’s armor, Laura Kinney wears Logan’s Patch outfit, Spider-Gwen sports a Silk-inspired dress, Tony Stark highlights the absurdity of Hawkeye’s classic costume, and Scarlet Witch wears Polaris’ Malice outfit.
Expanding Marvel’s Costume Lineups Across Media

The focus on alternate character designs extends beyond the comic page into animation and merchandise. According to The Direct, Funko’s wave of X-Men ’97
Season 2 Pop! figures revealed a rugged, wasteland-style costume for Storm, featuring a blue and yellow battle suit, a red belt, and a black cape.
The Direct notes that this survival-ready outfit closely mirrors the Uncanny X-Men costume Ororo Munroe wore in Marvel Comics during the 1960s when she briefly stepped out of her usual silver attire to join the team’s matching uniforms. The design lines up with new figures for Wolverine, Cyclops, and Jean Grey ahead of Season 2, which is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in summer 2026 after a world premiere at the Tribeca Festival in June.
