A former Malibu beach house belonging to Hollywood actor Steve McQueen returned to the luxury real estate market in November 2022 with an asking price of $16.995 million, according to Coldwell Banker Realty listings and Architectural Digest. The 4,335-square-foot residence sits inside the gated Victoria Point community in Malibu, California, offering four bedrooms, five bathrooms, oceanfront decks, and private beach access. The property changed hands twice in 2020 before undergoing a multi-million-dollar renovation led by songwriter Ammar Malik and his wife, Chyna Bardarson.
Victoria Point Property Sales and Renovation Costs
The ownership history of the coastal residence involves two separate transactions in 2020 that revealed a $1.15 million price difference. In July 2020, McQueen’s son, Chad McQueen, sold the property for $7.2 million, as reported by Architectural Digest. Two months later in September 2020, Malik and Bardarson purchased the home for $8.35 million. Malik co-wrote popular tracks including Maroon 5’s Moves Like Jagger.
Following the purchase, the couple invested heavily in modernizing the estate. Malik stated to Inman that they spent well into seven figures on the project, upgrading foundational infrastructure such as plumbing and electrical systems while preserving the home’s connection to the Pacific coastline.
Steve McQueen and Ali MacGraw in 1970s Malibu
During the 1970s, Steve McQueen lived at the Malibu residence with his then-wife, actor Ali MacGraw. Known for starring roles in Bullitt and The Great Escape, McQueen earned the nickname the King of Cool and actively sought privacy away from the pressures of the entertainment industry. Marc Eliot’s 2012 biography details how the couple took quiet walks along the beach near the home to escape public scrutiny.

That era established a lasting association between the actor’s legacy and the coastal setting. Decades after McQueen’s death in 1980, the historical connection served as a marketing feature when the property re-entered the real estate market.
Final Listing and September 2023 Sale Price
The $16.995 million asking price set in November 2022 more than doubled the $8.35 million purchase price from 2020. However, listing prices do not establish final market values. Coldwell Banker Realty property records show the home was relisted for $14.995 million in June 2023 before selling for $13.6 million in September 2023.
The final transaction concluded a multi-year cycle of sales and upgrades that repositioned the historical retreat within luxury real estate.
