A nationwide lawsuit is filed over the “one-vote disparity” in the House of Representatives election held on the 27th. A group of lawyers in Nagoya also calls for the election to be invalidated | Tokai TV NEWS
On October 28, 2024, a group of lawyers filed a lawsuit with the Nagoya High Court seeking to invalidate the elections in the three Tokai prefectures, arguing that the House of Representatives election, which was held in districts that were not proportional to population, was unconstitutional.
A group of lawyers had filed a similar lawsuit in the 2021 House of Representatives election, and the Nagoya High Court dismissed the lawsuit, but judged it to be an “unconstitutional condition” as it “contradicts the demand for equality in the value of votes.”
The 2024 House of Representatives election will be the first election to be held with a new 10-increase-10-decrease district division to correct disparities, and the maximum disparity is 2.06 times, which is a decrease from the previous election.
A group of lawyers has filed a lawsuit with the Nagoya High Court as well as 13 other high courts and branch offices, seeking to invalidate all 289 single-seat constituencies nationwide.
