As the scorching heat continues, a 55-year-old male employee of Yamato Transport, the largest logistics company, went on strike on August 19th, demanding that warehouse workers take measures to prevent heatstroke.
According to a man who held a press conference at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare Press Club in Kasumigaseki, Tokyo, the thermometer inside the warehouse showed temperatures exceeding 40 degrees. “We are working while putting our lives at risk,” he said, and called for the provision of fan-equipped work clothes and improvements to the environment inside the warehouse.

The man has been with the company for 27 years and is currently in charge of sorting packages at a Yamato Transport office in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture. He works five days a week, from 9am to 7pm, and spends most of his time in the warehouse. In addition to the man, there are other non-regular workers who work part-time, but the man is the only one working full-time.
At the press conference, the man described how harsh the conditions were inside the warehouse.
