Aamir Khan Reflects on Early Marriage to Reena‌ Dutta

Aamir Khan,‍ the Bollywood actor, has openly discussed his past⁤ marriages, including his first to Reena Dutta. Khan, now introducing his⁤ girlfriend Gauri Spratt,‍ recently reflected on marrying Dutta, the mother of his children ‌Junaid and Ira, at ‌the young age ⁢of 21. ⁣He and Reena were together ‌for⁢ 16 years.

Khan described the decision to marry after only knowing Dutta for four⁣ months as ‌a​ “mistake,” ⁢though he clarified that he never considered​ Reena ‍herself a mistake. The two married in 1986 and‍ divorced in 2002 ⁣but maintain a ​close relationship.​ Khan ⁣later married director Kiran Rao,with ⁢whom he also shares​ a son,Azaad,before divorcing after 16 years.

Speaking on a podcast⁣ with⁢ Raj shamani, Khan said that despite the brevity of their⁢ courtship, “there ⁣was a lot of love and​ affection between us, which is why we got married.”

Khan emphasized⁤ his ‌continued respect for⁢ dutta and how the marriage ⁢shaped his life. “Reena⁤ is very precious to me, and in a way, we grew up together,” he said, noting the deep ​respect and⁣ love they still ‍share. He ‍added that while ⁤he considers marrying ⁢so quickly a mistake, “somewhere, ​they turned out to be right.”

“We ‍had only known each other for four months before that, and‌ even during those four months, we hadn’t spent much time ‍together.But⁢ there was a lot of love and affection between us, ​which is ‌why we got married.”
