A$AP Rocky is opening up about his 2019 arrest in Sweden,acknowledging the incident profoundly impacted his career and personal life. The rapper discussed the experience during a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon in seoul, South Korea, while promoting his appearance at a Netflix event.
Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, was detained following a street fight in Stockholm. He and two members of his entourage where accused of assault and spent over a month in Swedish custody before being convicted of assault and receiving conditional sentences.The case garnered international attention, with figures like Donald Trump intervening on Rocky’s behalf.
“It was a really, really, really bad time for me,” Rocky told Fallon.”I was really down, really depressed. I couldn’t even listen to music, which is crazy because music is my life.”
He explained the ordeal forced him to confront his own mortality and re-evaluate his priorities. The rapper also noted the incident led to travel restrictions, hindering his ability to tour and work.
“I couldn’t even go to europe for a while,” he said. “It was a nightmare. It felt like I was being punished for something I didn’t do.”
Rocky’s comments come as he continues to expand his creative endeavors beyond music. He recently attended the press conference for the second season of Netflix’s “Wednesday” in Seoul, showcasing his growing presence in the entertainment industry.
