Tragic Death of 4-Month-Old Baby Left Alone by Mother for 8 Days

A Chinese mother’s decision to leave her 4-month-old baby alone at home for 8 days has ended in tragedy, with the infant dying from suspected malnutrition.

According to reports, 31-year-old Mrs. Chen, a single mother of two, left her youngest daughter at home while she traveled alone during the Mid-Autumn Festival. When she returned, she found her daughter had died.

Mrs. Chen claimed she had not gone out of town and had been returning to her parents’ house for the past eight days. However, her family had not seen her daughter, and no one had asked about her.

After a preliminary inspection of the scene, police found no signs of outside interference, and the charge of theft was dropped. However, a forensic examination revealed that the 4-month-old baby girl had died due to starvation.

Police believe that Mrs. Chen’s actions led to the child’s death, and she has been detained for further investigation. In May, Mrs. Chen had received financial assistance, rented a house, and provided baby products and childcare services from the Social Affairs Office due to her unemployment.

The Office of Social Affairs stated that Mrs. Chen had not handed the baby over to a carer, leading to the tragic event. The Social Affairs Bureau has now taken custody of Chen’s eldest daughter.

The Qiaotou District Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation on September 24, and Mrs. Chen has been arrested and detained due to the risk of cooperating with witnesses, destroying evidence, or escaping.
