abridge Secures $300M Funding to Expand AI’s Role in Healthcare
Updated June 25, 2025
Abridge, a generative AI platform focused on clinical conversations, has obtained $300 million in Series E funding. Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) led the investment round, with participation from Khosla Ventures. The company plans to use the capital to enhance its platform and transform healthcare delivery, documentation, and reimbursement processes.
The U.S.healthcare system spends nearly $1.5 trillion annually on administrative tasks, much of it related to clinical documentation and revenue cycle management (RCM). Abridge aims to alleviate this burden by embedding revenue cycle intelligence into clinical conversations. The platform’s Contextual Reasoning Engine supports guidelines and risk adjustment models, converting patient interactions into compliant documentation at the point of care.
By capturing Hierarchical Condition Category (HCC) codes with supporting evidence,Abridge’s platform enables RCM teams to submit accurate claims without constant clinician queries. The goal is to expedite reimbursement cycles and reduce claim denials. Abridge currently supports clinicians across 55 specialties and 28 languages, and is on track to support over 50 million medical conversations this year.
The company’s AI platform is deployed in 150 major health systems. More than 90% of clinicians who begin using Abridge continue to use it regularly.
“Every medical conversation is rich with the signals our healthcare system depends on.abridge activates those signals in the background, silently handling the complexity so clinicians can focus on the human moments that matter,” said Dr. Shiv Rao, CEO and co-founder of Abridge. “We reduce the burden, restore time, and help make care about the people at the heart of it all.”
What’s next
With the new funding, Abridge plans to further develop its AI-powered platform, expanding its capabilities to address more areas within healthcare governance and improve the overall efficiency of clinical workflows.
