ISBNs and Price Information for Required/Recommended Books

The Higher Education Opportunity Act requires universities to provide students with the International Standard Book Numbers (ISBNs) and price information for all required or recommended books and supplemental materials for each course.

At the University of Pennsylvania, we partner with Barnes & Noble Education, the managers of the Penn Bookstore, to ensure this information is accessible. Students can use the bookstore’s online system to view a complete list of course materials, including the ISBNs for each text. Students have the option to buy their books from other vendors and are not obligated to shop at the Penn Bookstore. Additionally, faculty can indicate when no course materials are required, which supports accurate reporting.
