Achmad Maulana Adapts to New Position in Indonesian National Team
Indonesian Star Adapts Seamlessly too New Role in AFF Cup
jakarta, Indonesia – Shin Tae-Yong, head coach of the Indonesian national team, has deployed rising star Achmad Maulana Syarif in a midfield role for the 2024 AFF cup. This marks a shift from Syarif’s usual position as a defender for his club team, Arema.
Despite the change,Syarif expressed confidence in his ability to adapt. The 21-year-old previously played as a midfielder during the U-20 World Cup with the Indonesian national team.
“when I joined Arema, I was recently moved to wingback, so it wasn’t a surprise,” Syarif said after a training session at Sriwedari Stadium on Wednesday.Syarif believes his experience at Arema, even in a different position, has been invaluable in preparing him for the AFF Cup.This was particularly evident in Indonesia’s recent match against Vietnam on December 15th.
“Without playing time, you can’t gain much experience,” Syarif explained. “Especially against a tough opponent like Vietnam.”
Adapting to Shin Tae-Yong’s coaching style hasn’t been a challenge for Syarif either. Having previously played under the Korean coach with the U-20 national team, he is already familiar with STY’s methods.
“it wasn’t difficult at all,” Syarif stated. “I’ve been with him for about a year,so adapting again wasn’t a problem.”
