ACS and‌ ACCIONA Secure Rail Expansion Contract in Queensland,australia

BRISBANE,Australia – ACS and ACCIONA have been awarded a major contract to expand the rail line connecting Brisbane and the Gold Coast in Queensland,Australia. The project, with a total budget of 5.75 billion ‍Australian​ dollars (3.22 billion euros), aims to improve public transportation and support the region’s growing population and tourism industry.

Activus alliance to Deliver Rail Upgrade

The two companies will collaborate as part of the Activus Alliance,wich also includes Cimic-CPB⁣ and UGL (both Australian subsidiaries‌ of ACS),Canadian firm WSP,and local company SMEC.The alliance will work in conjunction with the Department of Transportation and Main Roads of Queensland and Queensland Rail on design and planning activities.

While the overall project ⁢budget is 5.75 billion Australian dollars, the specific value of the contract awarded to ACS and ACCIONA is less, though it represents ​the most notable portion of the ‌overall project.

Project goals: Increased Capacity and Accessibility

According to a⁣ statement, the rail expansion ⁢will provide more frequent and reliable public​ transport services to meet the increasing travel demand between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.‍ The upgraded ‌infrastructure is also intended to support population growth in Queensland and its tourism sector, ​notably in anticipation of the 2032 Brisbane olympic Games.

  • improvements to station ⁢accessibility, ​including ‌parking and⁢ bus‍ stops.
  • Elimination of level⁣ crossings.
  • Upgrades to control and signaling systems.

  • Improved pedestrian and cyclist connections along the 20-kilometer corridor.
  • Integration with adjacent construction projects and the existing rail network.

Juan Santamaría, CEO of the ACS group and executive president of CIMIC, stated ‍that their‌ team’s experience in​ executing rail and metro projects in large cities will ensure the safe and reliable delivery ⁤of this new generation railway line. He added that the project will increase public transport capacity,improve‍ accessibility,and provide more comfortable and efficient travel.

Past Successes in Australia

ACS and ACCIONA have a track record of successful collaborations ‌in Australia.Previous projects include a railway line⁢ in Melbourne awarded in September 2021 for 750 ‍million euros, the ⁣expansion of Sydney ​International Airport for 328 million euros, and the design ⁢and construction of a Melbourne highway for 2.3 billion euros.
