“The effect of thoracic stretching on running performance”
[Research summary]
Because thoracic function has a significant impact on respiratory muscles, thoracic mobility needs to be considered from various angles when it comes to thoracic movement and athletic performance. However, little research has been done on how to approach this and its impact on running performance.
This study aimed to investigate the effects of thoracic stretching on running performance using the shuttle stamina test (SST), which has shown a significant correlation with maximum oxygen uptake and the 20m shuttle run.
Stretching intervention of the thoracic cage improved running performance and had an effect of early recovery after exercise. As a result, the relaxation of tension in the diaphragm and other respiratory muscles and the reduction in the workload of the respiratory muscles led to an increase in blood flow and oxygen consumption in the active muscles during running, suggesting that this may be a useful conditioning method for improving running economy.

We would like to prove that the results of this research are relevant not only to running but also to many other sports movements, and we would like to incorporate this into classes and other areas as a method of treatment and conditioning used by judo therapists.
