Adam Cole AEW Absence: Latest Update
Adam Cole Sidelined Indefinitely Due to Concussion Issues, Vacates TNT Championship
AEW President Tony Khan confirmed on Saturday that Adam Cole is not medically cleared to compete, leading to the immediate vacation of his TNT Championship. The news, revealed earlier in the day, was further substantiated by a new report from Fightful Select on Sunday, confirming that Cole is sidelined from action for the ”foreseeable future” due to concussion issues.
A Devastating Blow for Cole and AEW
The report indicates that Cole is believed to have sustained the injury earlier in the week. He reportedly began feeling unwell on Saturday morning, prompting the decision to remove him from competition. Tony Khan addressed the situation directly in a live video on X (formerly known as Twitter) during AEW’s All In Zero Hour. During his declaration to the fans at the event, khan stated that Cole would be absent for “a long time,” though he was not in a position to confirm whether retirement was a possibility.
This unfortunate turn of events marks a important setback for Adam Cole, who has become a prominent figure in AEW. His absence leaves a void in the championship picture and raises concerns about his long-term health in the wrestling world.
A History of Injury Concerns
Adam Cole is unluckily no stranger to concussion-related issues. He previously suffered two back-to-back concussions in the summer of 2022. The more serious of thes occurred in June of that year at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, during his fatal four-way match for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. At the time, reports from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggested that cole appeared sluggish after taking a kick from “Hangman” Adam page during the bout.
Beyond concussions, Cole also battled back from a severe ankle injury in September 2023. This injury necessitated multiple surgeries and forced him off the road for an extended period. He sustained this injury while jumping off the ramp at AEW Grand Slam that year,in an effort to protect his then-friend MJF during his match against Samoa Joe.The wrestling community is undoubtedly sending their best wishes to Adam Cole as he navigates this challenging period. His resilience in overcoming past injuries has been remarkable, and fans will be eagerly awaiting news of his recovery and potential return to the ring.
