Adam Sandler Still Gets Emotional Remembering Chris Farley
Adam Sandler’s heartfelt tribute to his late friend and fellow comedian, Chris Farley, continues to evoke strong emotions. More than two decades after Farley’s death from a drug overdose in 1997, Sandler revealed that performing the “Chris Farley Song” still deeply affects him.
Sandler shared on the ”happy Sad Confused” podcast that the musical tribute, featured in his Netflix special “Adam Sandler: 100% Fresh” and on “SNL,” remains a powerful experience. The Adam Sandler Chris Farley connection is undeniable, and the comedian’s legacy lives on thru Sandler’s performances.
Despite singing the song numerous times, Sandler admits he still battles his emotions when the music starts. Seeing Farley’s face in the accompanying video and hearing the audience’s keen reaction adds to the intensity.
“The first few times, we played that song, I would tear up and I couldn’t really sing it well as I’d get so emotional, and then I felt it and was able to get it out there,” Sandler said. “It’s weird, but when that song starts, I go, ‘Oh f–k, alright, don’t cry and don’t do that’ still. I’ve sang it maybe a hundred times already, but it rocks me.”
Sandler noted that the audience’s enthusiastic response to any mention of Farley’s name is a highlight of every show. The enduring impact of Chris Farley’s comedy is evident in the crowd’s reaction.
“Every show I do, by far the biggest applause of the night is talking about Farley and any time I mention his name, the audience goes nuts. It feels great,” Sandler said.
