Festival organizers Komplott and Overgave canceled their scheduled Amsterdam Dance Event party after booking techno DJ Shlømo, who faced rape allegations in Paris earlier this year, according to reports from AT5, NU.nl, De Telegraaf, and RTL.nl. The cancellation followed widespread backlash within the dance music community, including the withdrawal of several Dutch artists and Amsterdam Dance Event distancing itself from the event.
Backlash and Lineup Controversy at Amsterdam Dance Event
The controversy began after festival organizers announced their lineup last week, which included techno DJ Shlømo, whose real name is Shaun Baron-Carvais, according to reporting by regional broadcaster AT5 and news site NU.nl. Multiple women accused the DJ of sexually transgressive behavior in February, and a formal complaint of rape was filed against him in Paris in June, as detailed by regional outlet NH Nieuws. Initially, organizers Komplott and Overgave defended their decision to book the artist. According to statements cited by RTL.nl and De Telegraaf, the promoters claimed they had booked him only after conducting a careful evaluation of the information available to them.
Industry Fallout and Event Cancellation
Following the initial announcement, the Amsterdam Dance Event distanced itself from the planned party, while several Dutch DJs pulled out of the lineup in protest. Facing mounting pressure, the organizers reversed course and canceled the event entirely.

We wilden niet bijdragen aan verdere verdeeldheid of vijandigheid.
Komplott In a statement reported by NH Nieuws and European news aggregators, Komplott explained that the event had sparked discussions that went far beyond their original intentions. The organization expressed regret toward the dance community, participating artists, partners, and supporters. Despite canceling the Amsterdam Dance Event gathering, Komplott confirmed that its broader operations will continue. The organization has another club night scheduled at Amsterdam’s club Panama on November 21, maintaining that it stands for music, connection, respect, and a safe environment, according to regional reporting. The DJ himself has denied all accusations against him.
