Adidas Launches Women’s Specific rugby Boots: RS15 Avaglide
Adidas has launched the RS15 Avaglide, its first rugby boots designed specifically for women. The new boots are an adaptation of the existing RS15 rugby boots, modified to accommodate female anatomical differences.
Key updates to the women’s rugby boots include a redesigned heel structure, supportive leather inserts, and a molded sock liner. These adjustments aim to provide enhanced comfort and performance for female athletes.

Several athletes, including Jess Breach, Manaé Feleu, and Ilona Maher, contributed to the growth of the RS15 Avaglide. The boots are expected to be worn at the upcoming Women’s Rugby World Cup.
Kerryn foster, general manager of specialist boots at Adidas, said the company wanted to address the specific needs of female rugby players. “As the women’s game grew, we wanted to see if there was a need for a women’s boot from an anatomical data and player opinion need,” Foster said.
Matt Fielding, Adidas category director, noted the extensive development process. “Our normal process for anything new is 21 months but this has problably been three years in the making,” Fielding said. He added that the rise of professional women’s rugby prompted a deeper understanding of female players’ needs.
independent research and player feedback highlighted the need for a rugby boot tailored to women. The most meaningful change from the standard RS15 is the heel cup, featuring a waterfall heel system. This design includes increased cushioning and a lower side to better support the narrower female heel structure. A dense foam lining extends down the back of the boot.
Adidas also found that women tend to have a broader forefoot. To address this, leather patches were added to the sides of the boot, creating stretch zones for lateral movement and wider feet. This helps prevent pinching and wear.
Additionally, the integration of a molded sock liner provides stability during direction changes, addressing the tendency for female athletes to over-pronate due to wider hips.
Other features include asymmetrical lacing for a secure fit and a textured toe box for enhanced ball contact during kicking.
The RS15 Avaglide is available in two versions: the RS15 Avaglide, retailing for €160 (£140), and the RS15 Avaglide Rise, priced at €95 (£85). both come in off-white/iridescent and core black colorways.
