Adres Overhaul: A Step in the Right Direction, But Funding Falls Short
Health System Under Pressure: Government Must Evaluate Solutions
The Government must evaluate prompt solutions that guarantee the normal provision of services.
According to the income and expenditure report published by the General Health Social Security System Resources Administrator (Address), in August, the implementation of the entity’s resources is on track. The report presents that the entity has received an income exceeding $55.6 billion, which represents approximately 60.5% of the resources for 2024.
However, these resources must cover commitments of $61.3 billion, which is insufficient when evaluating the different uses of the system. This inadequacy in resources has created avoidable problems, such as de-capitalization of the EPS, late turnaround due to the provision of resources, reallocation of budgets, among other measures, which directly affect consumers.
As ANIF has warned, a lack of resources creates financial pressure on the system, which, as seen in the last year, translates into delays in patient care, restrictions on medicines and interruptions in treatments due to the increase in waiting times.
Under this scenario, the discussion should focus on the adequacy of resources, something that is beyond the reach of Adres. The problem of the health system is essentially financial, so the Government must evaluate prompt solutions that guarantee the normal provision of services.
