Adrià Pericas vaulted into third place in the overall standings following his stage win, cutting deep into the deficits and standing 1 minute and 57 seconds behind Guérin. The stage opened with a 13-rider breakaway that formed inside the Peneda-Gerês National Park before dissolving roughly 50 kilometres into the route. Fábio Costa of Feira dos Sofás-Boavista then launched a solo attack on the approach to the Mata da Albergaria climb, building an advantage that stretched to 1 minute and 20 seconds while Anicolor-Campicarn chased behind.
