Spanish basketball center Adriana Díaz has committed to play for Ohio State University as part of the women’s basketball program’s 2026 freshman class. The announcement was made via Instagram on April 15, 2026.

Díaz, a 6-foot-1 post player, is the second commitment for the Buckeyes’ 2026 class, joining four-star guard Atlee Vanesko from Westtown High School in Pennsylvania. Vanesko is currently ranked as the No. 9 point guard and the No. 60 overall prospect in the 2026 class according to Rivals Industry Rankings.

During her tenure with Estudiantes, Díaz appeared in the club’s regular season and Eurocup play. In the regular season, she averaged 6.2 minutes per game, while averaging 7.1 minutes per game in Eurocup competition. Her highest professional scoring output occurred on November 5, 2025, when she scored eight points and converted two of five attempts from beyond the arc in 13 minutes of play.

On the international stage, Díaz represented Spain at the 2025 FIBA U18 Women’s EuroBasket tournament. She contributed to the gold medal-winning Spanish side, appearing in seven games. While coming off the bench, she averaged 9.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 16.7 minutes per game. Other reports indicate she averaged 7.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per game during the tournament, with double-digit scoring in two of her six appearances.

Strategic Fit for Ohio State

Head coach Kevin McGuff utilizes a Five Out system that requires players to be able to shoot from beyond the perimeter. Díaz’s ability to shoot from the arc as a post player aligns with the skill sets of previous European bigs on the Buckeyes roster, such as former forward Rebeka Mikulášiková and current center Elsa Lemmilä.

Díaz is described as a physical post player who utilizes her size to muscle opponents, secure rebounds, and score second-chance baskets inside the paint.

The addition of Díaz brings the Ohio State roster to five inside players. She joins center Elsa Lemmilä and redshirt sophomores Seini Henry, Ella Hobbs, and Kylee Kitts. Kitts previously served as a starter before an injury.

Recruitment and Roster Outlook

Díaz chose Ohio State over a competing offer from Big Ten rival Michigan State.

The Buckeyes are returning several key players for the upcoming season, including star point guard Jaloni Cambridge. Other returning starters include guards Kennedy Cambridge and Ava Watson, as well as center Elsa Lemmilä. The roster also includes bench contributors such as guard Bryn Martin.

Depending on her transition to college basketball, Díaz has the potential to enter the starting lineup for the next season.
