RTÉ Appoints Experienced Journalist Aengus Cox as New Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Correspondent
Dublin, Ireland – RTÉ has announced Aengus Cox as its new Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Correspondent, succeeding Joe Mag Raollaigh who now serves as teh Political Coverage Editor. Cox brings a wealth of experience across various platforms, having worked with RTÉ News since 2012.
Cox has held prominent roles within RTÉ, including reporting, editing, and presenting for the flagship radio program Morning Ireland. His reporting has covered a diverse range of topics, from food production and environmental issues to investigative features on rising insurance costs.
Prior to his role at Morning Ireland, Cox served as a business reporter for RTÉ News, covering personal finance, housing, the cost of living, and the impact of Brexit on various sectors. He has also reported from London during the British general election and the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
Most recently, cox traveled to Sudan, providing crucial on-the-ground reporting on the devastating civil war for all RTÉ News platforms.
“Farming in Ireland has reached a pivotal point, with competing pressures from key environmental targets and the ever-increasing cost of doing business,” cox said. “Farmers are looking to quickly adapt practices in reducing carbon emissions, while at the same time needing to stay competitive. I hope to visit as many farms, agri-businesses, and other stakeholders as I can to tell these stories as they deal with this transition.”
Cox expressed his enthusiasm for the consumer affairs aspect of his new role,stating,”I’m also delighted that consumer affairs is so prominent in this brief as it impacts all parts of our lives including pricing,travel cancellations and peoples consumer rights.”
Before joining RTÉ, Cox honed his journalistic skills at East Coast Radio in his home county of Wicklow, where he hosted a weekend current affairs program focusing on local issues.
Cox holds a BA Hons in German and politics, as well as a first-class honours Masters Degree from UCD in European Regional & Minority Studies.
