Aer Lingus has reported a important financial uplift, driven by robust revenue performance, favourable fuel pricing, and positive foreign exchange benefits. ‍The airline attributes its strong showing to a substantial increase in capacity, which saw a 10.9 per cent growth in overall capacity and a 4.3 ⁣per cent rise in passenger numbers year-on-year.

Strategic Route Expansion Fuels Performance

The airline’s strategic expansion of its route network has been a key contributor to its success.⁣ This summer, Aer Lingus launched new routes from Dublin to Nashville and Indianapolis, alongside an enhanced European leisure network. Looking ahead, the airline has also announced its inaugural direct flight to Cancún,Mexico, scheduled to commence in January.

“Our performance builds upon the momentum from the previous two quarters,” stated Aer Lingus Chief ⁣Executive Lynne Embleton. “This growth is a testament to our team’s dedication and our strategic investments in expanding our network and improving our customer offering.”

CEO Criticises Dublin Airport Noise restrictions

Despite the positive financial results, Aer Lingus CEO Lynne embleton has voiced strong‍ criticism regarding the recent decision by An Coimisiún pleanála (The Planning Commission) to impose ⁣restrictions on ⁤noise⁢ at Dublin Airport. embleton argues that these new regulations ⁤will impede the airline’s⁢ future growth and operational capabilities.

Impact on North Atlantic and‍ Short-Haul Operations

“The recent An Coimisiún Pleanála decision on night-time⁣ noise introduced an needless annual movement restriction at‍ Dublin Airport, which is likely to impede both future⁣ growth of north Atlantic traffic⁣ and the basing of additional short-haul aircraft in Dublin,” ⁢embleton explained. She stressed that the restriction on night-time movements “will have to be removed.”

Calls for Government Intervention on Passenger Cap

Furthermore, Embleton highlighted the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the passenger cap at Dublin Airport, warning of negative economic and employment impacts. She issued an urgent call for government‍ intervention, stating, “It is also now imperative that Government intervenes and urgently legislates for the removal of ⁤the passenger cap.”

Airlines Warn of Growth ⁢Hindrance from Night Flight Limits

Airlines have labelled the⁤ ruling, which limits night flights at Dublin Airport to 35,672 annually,as a “second passenger cap.” They contend that this move will substantially squeeze growth at Ireland’s busiest airport.

New Runway Operating Hours and Night Flight Quotas

An coimisiún Pleanála has decided to extend the hours the airport can operate from its new “north” runway to between 6 am and midnight.Previously, a ban was in‍ place for landings or take-offs from this runway between 11 pm and 7 am. This adjustment means the average number of flights‍ allowed through the airport’s two runways between 11 pm and 7 am will increase to 98 from 65 per day, subject ⁣to the⁢ annual limit. The older south runway will continue to operate through the ⁣night, while the north runway will close between midnight and 6 ‍am.Planners have also proposed a ‍quota system for managing night-time noise, a measure that had been sought by airlines and the airport operator, DAA. However, major carriers like Aer Lingus and Ryanair have cautioned that the new night flight limit will hinder or even eliminate ⁢growth opportunities on both European and North American routes.
