AEW CMLL Star Persephone Out Indefinitely Following Collision Mist Angle

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) President Tony Khan has announced that AEW and Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) star Persephone is out indefinitely from competition.

The announcement was made on May 2, 2026, prior to the live broadcast of AEW Collision. The update follows a scripted segment on the April 26, 2026, episode of Collision, during which Julia Hart sprayed mist into the face of Persephone.

According to Khan, Persephone will be absent from all upcoming AEW and CMLL matches. This unexpected removal from the active roster creates a vacancy in a high-stakes championship opportunity scheduled for later this month.

Impact on ROH Women’s Championship Contention

Persephone had previously secured a spot in the first-ever Women’s Survival of the Fittest Match. This match is scheduled to take place on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the Supercard of Honor pay-per-view event.

The event will be held at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center in Salisbury, Maryland. The winner of the Survival of the Fittest match will earn the opportunity to challenge Athena for the ROH Women’s Championship.

Athena has maintained a dominant grip on the ROH Women’s Championship, holding the title for over 1,200 days. The upcoming match represents a significant opportunity for a new challenger to end one of the most enduring title reigns in the promotion’s history.

Replacement Process and Qualifying Field

To determine who will take Persephone’s place in the May 15 match, Tony Khan stated that Zayda Steel will face Hyan. The winner of this encounter will be inserted into the Survival of the Fittest field.

Persephone was one of five athletes who successfully won qualifying matches to earn their place in the contest. The other confirmed participants include:
