The card for AEW Grand Slam Australia, set to take place on in Sydney, is rapidly taking shape with several key matches and title bouts now confirmed. Following the episode of AEW Dynamite, the promotion has solidified a lineup that promises a significant event for international fans.
The most dramatic development from Dynamite was Brody King’s swift victory over MJF in a World Title eliminator. The match concluded quickly after a distraction created by Hangman Page, allowing King to capitalize with a sleeper hold and ultimately secure the win with the Gonzo Bomb. This victory earns King a future opportunity to challenge for the AEW World Championship at Grand Slam Australia.
Adding further intrigue to the World Championship picture, Hangman Page will also compete at the event in a World title eliminator against Andrade El Idolo. The winner of this bout will advance to challenge for the AEW World Championship at Revolution next month. Both Page and El Idolo earned their places in the match through singles victories on Dynamite, with Page defeating Mark Davis and El Idolo overcoming Kenny Omega.
The Andrade-Omega contest was not without controversy. Don Callis attempted to interfere by providing Andrade with a screwdriver, prompting an intervention from Swerve Strickland. The resulting distraction allowed Andrade to execute a low blow and his finishing move, securing the pinfall victory. Following the match, a heated exchange occurred between Omega and Strickland before security intervened.
The AEW Continental Championship will also be on the line in Sydney, as champion Jon Moxley defends his title against Konosuke Takeshita. This match was announced on Dynamite following a trios match involving both competitors, stemming from the ongoing rivalry between the Death Riders and the Don Callis Family. This defense will be Moxley’s first since winning the title at Worlds End in the Continental Classic.
The AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championships will also be contested at Grand Slam Australia. The current champions, Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron, known as Babes of Wrath, will defend their titles against Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford. The challengers earned their opportunity by defeating Nightingale and Cameron in a title eliminator match on Dynamite, marking the third defense for the reigning champions.
Beyond the championship matches, a unique stipulation match has been added to the card: a hair vs. Hair tornado tag team match featuring Toni Storm & Orange Cassidy against Wheeler Yuta & Marina Shafir.
