All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has expressed real
interest in working with former WWE Champion Mick Foley, according to reporting from The Takedown on Sports Illustrated published on May 14, 2026.
Foley is approaching the end of his WWE Legends deal, which is set to expire in June 2026. This transition will make the 60-year-old a free agent for the first time since his retirement from active competition.
While the interest from AEW is described as genuine, the specific nature of a potential partnership remains undetermined. The company is reportedly considering several options, ranging from a one-time appearance to a longer-term role. This could include an ambassador or commissioner-style position similar to the roles currently held by Ricky Steamboat and Ric Flair.
Despite his extensive career across various global wrestling promotions, Foley has never appeared inside an AEW ring.
The timing of this interest coincides with AEW’s preparations for the Double or Nothing event, scheduled for May 24, 2026, in Flushing, New York. The venue is located approximately one hour from Foley’s hometown on Long Island.
Sources familiar with the situation told The Takedown on Sports Illustrated that while there is no direct knowledge of Foley being booked for the May 24 event, there may be a push to utilize him for the show if a deal is finalized.
The potential move follows a previous attempt by AEW talent to bring Foley back into a prominent role. MJF, who is also a Long Island native and is scheduled to main event Double or Nothing in a Hair vs. AEW World Championship match against Darby Allin, previously pitched a six-week program to Foley.
Foley declined the offer due to health concerns related to his knee and hip replacements. Both Foley and MJF have since confirmed that these discussions took place.
Speaking on Late Night Grin with Joe Hulbert, MJF discussed the interaction:
Look, he’s talked about it openly. We sat down and we had a discussion of what that would look like. It was a very good talk

The prospect of Foley joining AEW is supported by AEW President Tony Khan, who has previously stated he is a fan of the former champion.
Foley’s departure from WWE is a result of his own decision not to renew his Legends contract. In December 2025, Foley confirmed he would let the deal expire in June 2026, citing the ongoing ties between TKO and WWE and President Donald Trump.
